After all, they have grown up in a different age and day. Today’s recent college graduate employees – the millennial generation - seem to be causing more headaches in Corporate America than previous generations. Yes, there are generational differences that cause frustration across all generations especially when a new generation arrives. However, upon deeper inspection, these generational nuances are paired with a shift in human development that most managers overlook or simply don’t understand. The recent economic downturn has resulted in the loss of over 50,000 jobs statewide. Job losses have cut across occupational groups- impacting white and blue collar workers alike. The result is a labor market in which new college graduates will find themselves in direct competition for available job vacancies. This presentation will cover the current labor market situation and the tools that graduates can use to explore opportunities.

Among college career professionals, there is a growing interest in exchanging ideas and information about what we are doing differently in this recession to assist students. Services may have been adjusted, certainly, events are different. This session would consist of table discussion groups to address the topic with facilitators guiding the processing and summary of information at the end of the session.
